THE UK QUAD ENDURO SERIES RD 3 – MAY – CLATTER – MID WALES WOR EVENTS

Click Here for Photo Wall of the Event ” The stunning setting of Clatter on the Mid Wales Mountain ranges was the home of WOR Events latest Quad race. The 3rd Round of the UK Quad Enduro Series 2016. Last Saturday, in superb Sunny weather the quad folk had a fantastic 10 mile lap that had everything in it you would expect from a top door cross country Enduro venue. Bogs, Woods, Massive climbs up and down the mountains, off cambers, sheep trails, farm tracks, you name it, it was there including some lovely loamy berms to rail in the loose bracken. A 40 strong line up of riders took to the line for the start and a full 3 hr enduro got underway.

Yamaha 2WD Expert Rider, Rhyds Owen was the first man back to the lap control area and that’s where he stayed, out in front for the duration of the race with some really fast and impressive riding indeed. Rhyds had a comfortable win margin of over a lap to his credit from the hard charging Runner Up, Luke Davies. Davies had a bit of pits work to do and dropped a lap but still set some fantastic lap times through out the race securing his Silver award. Third place in the 2WD Experts went to John Roberts making his first race back for over a year and amazingly doing over 2 hrs with a puncture on the demanding track that was no mean feat.

The racing in the 4WD Experts was class too with the top 3 riders all doing 10 laps and some real bar banging going on. Steve Atkins (Can- Am) made the long treck up from Exmoor to once again show his class on the big powerful 4×4 machines as he eased to a class win and a near 40 second advantage over Runner Up, Craig Mccormick. Polaris mounted Mccormick was again his usual jolly self as he had made another mammoth trip down from Scotland to take part and put in a cracking shift as he battled with 3rd placed Martin Benbow. A special mention must go to Benbow as he was riding a stock Suzuki farm quad and again showed he is some pilot as he forced it to challenge the bigger and more powerful race machines right to the wire as he finished just 5 seconds behind Mccormick come the end of the race even taking the 2nd spot a few times on that frantic last lap battle between the two riders. Really awesome stuff.

4×4 Clubman victory spoils were taken by Tom Jones, Jones making it 3 wins out of the last 3 rounds on his Polaris Scrambler and domination of his class. Jones was on 9 laps in class and the only rider to do so. Runner up and going great guns was Neil Martin on his Yamaha followed home in the Bronze spot by Can-Am mounted Graham Guy.

Ben Dean was the only rider in the 2WD group to complete 9 laps and he seemed to really be enjoying himself as he blasted around the open mountain sections. Rd 2 Clubman 2WD winner was Chloe Green and again she showed her metal with a brilliant Runners Up spot and a very creditable 8 laps. Ben Roberts was 5 minutes adrift in third place and also credited with 8 circuits.

The event was well received by all and the slick organisation and friendly atmosphere as always stood out for the riders. A nice presentation ceremony took place straight after the event and the riders set off home already looking forward to round 4 of the series on 11th June at the WOR’s superb Manor Park Venue in Welshpool. WOR would like to thank all staff, landowners, medics, Caterers, sponsors and of course the Riders for making these events possible.”
