THE PUTOLINE EUROTEK LAKELAND 2 DAY RACE REPORT / RESULTS

THE PUTOLINE EUROTEK LAKELAND 2 DAY ENDURO 28/29 MAY

Dirtbike Action headed over the Pennines to the Lake District and the Grathwaite estate which borders Lake Windermere for the Lakeland 2 day enduro the opening rounds of the 2016 Putoline Eurotek Northern Enduro championship.

The Dirt bike Action crew with major help from Anthony and Liam Crowe started course preparations with a new canvas for the event and created a brilliant new look to the old Graythwaite event renamed the Lakeland enduro , a new grass field start area near lake Windermere, from the start the riders would be treated to the Fantastic all new Bark house wood a loop of 15 -18 minutes of virgin trails through the trees , the course emerged from the woodland into the top of the start field where the new test and check 1 was located from there the course crossed the road and went in to the older parts of the estate check 2 was just before the road crossing as the course return to the start area .

The first championship riders left the start at 11am Saturday in brilliant sunshine and headed to check 1 and the test where Joe Chambers Eurotek ktm took the first test with a 5 second margin from MPS rider Luke Flack throughout the day Chambers would extend his lead over Flack to win day 1 by 20 seconds Dave Woods making a comeback after years away from the enduro scene gave a good account of himself in third place , in the expert class Lee Corbett had a 14 second winning margin over Rich Milner with Alistair Griffin taking 3 place , in the over 40 class always very close and with only 15 sec separating the top 4 it was Kyle Deswert who claimed the day 1 win from Alex Owen and local gent Karl Greenall in third . in the clubman class on day 1 Nathan Cooke was the clubman e1 winner Jamie Richardson took the clubman e2 win while Danny Culkin was the clubman e3 victor , the sportsman class found the going hard in the second with many loosing time but we had some great day 1 performance with the sportsman e1 win going to Darren Cooper , in the sports e2 class Peter Whiteside took the win by 5 seconds from Aaron Athersmith while in sports e3 Jack Turner was the winner , Tony Gunn won the over 50 class from Paul McKie, what a great day of time card enduro as the riders and crew’s got the camp fires and bbq’s talk was already on what was to come on day 2

Sunday was again bathed in glorious sunshine as the first riders left the start area at 10am the course had a few changes easing some of the climbs, Luke Flack and Dave Woods were the only championship riders as Joe Chambers had a prior engagement , Luke set the fastest test times to win improving on his first day test times Dave Woods was happy to finish2nd after picking up a painful rib injury on the first day , Sam Ludgate won the experts from Dave Nellis and Chris Raynor after a nightmare of a day on the 1st day had a much better 2nd day with a good third place .

Things changed in the 040 class as day 1 winner Kyle Deswert made costly errors on the test dropping himself down to 7 place Alex Owen took the win from Karl Greenall with Anthony Tempest in third

Alan Heath made the trip from the IOM worthwhile by winning the e1 clubman class while Harry Houghton won the club e2 class and Joe Westgarth was top in the club e3 class, Liam Crowe up the pace on Sunday and took the e1 sportsman class win in the sports e2 Chris Law was the winner and sports e3 it was Jack Turner giving him victories on both days. Talking to john kerwin event organizer at the end he said “ the events gone off really well we had a great mixture of going a fast flowing bark house wood then the more traditional northern forestry going across the road the majority have really enjoyed the event a few have struggled with the terrain and there is a big jump from normal xc event going to traditional northern time card going but thanks to everyone that supported the event and a big thanks to all the marshals , people manning the checks and test crew who have made this event possible .
