The 2016 Slattery Auctions Condo 750 was held in near perfect conditions over the Easter Long Weekend.
A strong field of over eighty five competitors entered this year’s navigational rally with more than 60 Motos and 20 Autos competing over the two days.
The 2016 route was a true test of endurance with just under 1000 kilometres of total track and 750 km of gruelling competitive stages. Cars, buggies, side by sides, bikes, quads and side cars all worked their way around the course using only the route maps provided by event organizers the night before.
In the moto category Honda took out a clean sweep of the podium.
Local rider Jacob Smith took the top spot. Jacob Smith said it was really good to get the win.
“This is the race that started my desert career and I always enjoy racing in my own back yard. My Honda CRF450 performed faultlessly and is a true testament to how far as a team we have come in 12 months, and I can’t thank my mechanic Jake young enough for this.” Jacob Smith said.
“I also want to thank the local land owner for letting us rip up the land to the 750 committee for the tireless efforts in putting together another world class event.”
Coming in second was fellow SBR rider and Brother Todd Smith. Todd returned to racing after 12 month away from the sport after breaking his neck early last year.
“It is so good to be back.” Todd Smith admitted. “I was a little off the pace on Saturday, Jake and Rod were in a class of their own but Sunday I felt a bit more confident with the bike and was able to pull back a bit of time on Sunday. A huge shout out must go to everyone involved in putting this event together.”
The Young local in Third was Lachlan Manwaring showing he is a serious contender for the future. Rod Faggotter from Yamaha Racing was leading the event all weekend when a crash in stage two put a stop to back to back wins.
In the quads was another local Honda taking the win in Ryan Hall with Victor Bonacci in second.
