“A full to bursting line up of riders took to the start clock at the latest WOR Events production. A Traditional Timecard Enduro to kick off the year with the SCE (Short Course Enduro) format that the club will be pushing this year alongside its renowned and established National Hare Scrambles formats. Unusually calm early January weather was a welcome bonus and the very well designed and cleverly crafted 9 mile lap was just about perfect to give the riders a real challenge yet remain ride able and sustainable for the duration.
The Experts had 8 laps and 5 specials to do and after all that Challenge it was Phil Jenkins on the KTM that was the top man, Trouble free, smooth and sensible riding secured the likeable Jenkins the event premier. Iwan Rees was runner up with Jian Sivori taking third spot. The DDBC supported the WOR event with loads of riders and it was Jenkins and Rees in their stand out club shirts that where the stand out riders too.. along with a very special mention for a young Moto X rider that was trying his hand at Enduro, Dion Lewis was in top form, entering the Sportsman class, his test times where enough to have won the event overall and big things are certainly to come from him, natural ability and pace along with smooth effortless riding, watch this space as he moves up the rankings this year in Enduro. WOR Boss Steve Ireland would like to see him in a 2.5hr National Hare Scramble soon so we will see.
Robert Francom continues to develop into a superb rider too as he dominated the Clubman class with a fine win with a 14 second advantage over Runner Up , Rob Hughes. 3rd spot went to Lee Thomas whom was nearly a minute down on Hughes. Roy Prescott, Euros Jones and Chris Berry battled it out in that order to finish as the top 3 in the competitive Vets A group, with 5 special tests and 7 laps as their collective target.
Kevin Wallace topped the Vets B with a nice ride with great mates, Jon Turley and Lee Chance finishing in second and third place respectively after many hours of riding.
Welshman and DDBC rider, Phil George used his Enduro experience to top the Over 50’s from Scotsman Andrew Maben with Southern rider and all round nice guy, Paul Armstrong in 3rd spot. Always a competitive group the Over 50’s and this was no different.
Most riders stayed clean as a very sensible time schedule was set and as stated before Dion Lewis topped the Sportsman group with the events best Special Test times. Runner Up in class was Kiron Jones with Dewi Arwel Thomas commanding a very well earned 3rd spot.
Properly Protected’s Nigel Lynn has been putting in lots and lots of practice and training and it certainly is paying off as he took his first ever class victory in the Novice group with a superb ride. Sportsman promotion looming for him if he continues this form. well done. Runner Up was Chris Cannon wo was only 5 seconds adrift at the end, very close indeed with Lukas Jones in 3rd spot.
The Youth class, A unique chance for youngsters to try this format of Enduro, provided in the UK only by the innovative WOR Events team, was very well supported and Jac George made the class his own with a great ride and win. Runner Up was another DDBC rider, Matthew Harries with George Yardley in 3rd spot.
Special mention to Henry Yardley who was going well throughout the day in the Experts and was a front runner until a nasty crash on the test eventually forced him into a unwanted DNF with a wrist injury.
All in all the day went off superbly with great weather, great course and a great group of riders. WOR would as always wish to thank everybody involved in the event and all those that supported it from Staff through to medics and caterers and most importantly as ever the riders that make these events happen.
WOR’s next event is the popular no frills 2 day playdays in their sand and pebble Quarry in Stoke on Trent this weekend on 14/15th January and then rounding out te month on 28/29th January with very popular forest playday on the SAT 28th followed by the all new, Properly Protected Nail Biter Special test Enduro on Sunday Jan29th.
