Walker returns to Extreme Enduro competition with runner-up result at Extreme XL Lagares 2017 Following his winter participation in the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship Jonny Walker has returned to Extreme Enduro racing with a solid runner-up result at Extreme XL Lagares, his first ever participation in the Portuguese event.

With day one featuring a ‘round the houses’ prologue through the streets of Porto’s historic city, Jonny placed as runner-up to team-mate Alfredo Gomez before also finishing second in the night time race.

The main event saw Walker make a somewhat cautious start, completing the opening kilometres in sixth position. Working his way up to fourth while finding his feet on the incredibly slippery terrain, as the race wore on he improved to his eventual finishing position of second. Jonny Walker: “For my first time here in Portugal I’m pleased to have finished second. This weekend was all about getting some serious outdoor race miles under my belt and I feel like I did just that. This was probably about one of the hardest tracks to return to Extreme Enduro racing on — the rocks were just relentless, pretty much completely unique to anything else I’ve ever ridden on. Alfredo and Wade started out really fast and on new terrain to me I wasn’t keen to take any risks and try and match their pace and go with them. Once I settled in I found my rhythm and just rode smart. It paid off and the result sort of came to me. Second is a good starting point and now I can build on this for Erzberg next month.”
